Fan Made Walking Dead Opening Credits

Just saw this short video first thing this morning. As a fan, I can not wait for the new AMC Channel television show The Walking Dead. Another fan, Daniel Kanemoto, decided he would make his own version of the opening credits to the show. This is very cool for fans of the show and for art/computer graphic design people also.

Legendary Review

I will admit it up front. This could, wait, probably is a biased review. You should know right now that I am a fan of WWE Wrestling and happen to admire John Cena as a professional wrestler and an actor. After saying that, this is my review of Legendary.

You have seen this movie in one way or another. It is the story of the "underdog" who wants to do or have something that he can not attain on his own. What I enjoyed was the sport of high school wrestling. We have seen these movies with other sports such as football, hockey, etc. but not amateur wrestling. No, i'm not talking about fake, predetermined WWE wrestling but the actual one on one strength versus strength and ability wrestling.

The story takes place in a small town in Oklahoma and follows a high school boy Cal and his mom Sharon that live together after the father and oldest son Mike (John Cena) are involved in a car wreck. The father is killed and Mike becomes estranged from the family and lives a life of alcohol and bar fights. Cal decides, from being bullied at school, to wrestle but ultimately fails. It is through his willingness to seek out his older brother, whom was a amateur wrestling high school champ, to teach him the ropes. Through this, Cal and Mike form a new friendship and Cal exceeds at his skills of wrestling. Danny Glover plays a side character known as "Red" that gives Cal advice from time to time through out the film.

Overall, this movie reminded me of a tv movie that I would see on The Disney Channel or The Family Channel. It was released in the theater for 2 short weeks and then will go straight to DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday. I think this is a new marketing scheme by WWE Studios because I believe the bulk of the profits for this film is from the DVD receipts. John Cena did a great job acting. He has improved and came a long way since his first movie The Marine. Given the right roles and opportunities, I think John Cena could be a big movie star. Danny Glover does fine and Devon Graye as Cal did a great job of being the dorky thin kid that turns into a decent wrestler. I recommend it to rent for a good family movie! If your a fan of John Cena then this is a no brainer. You can watch the trailer below. 3 out of 4 pizzas.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Trailer

Just cause it's the Potter, Harry Potter. I don't know what my deal is. Every time I see a trailer for one of these movies I crap my pants. Not literally, but the trailers make the film look so great and awesome and how badly it makes me want to see the film. Then, after a while I am not so excited anymore and don't end up going to the theater and just watching it on DVD. I think overall these are great films and will be a loved and cherished series till the end of time. I think I might actually go watch this one though especially because it is in 3D and because it is second to the end of it all, enjoy.

The Walking Dead Poster

As of now, you can probably tell that I am pretty excited for this show to come out.  For those of you that haven't heard, this is a new tv show about a man in search of his wife and young son after awakening in a hospital alone after a zombie apocalypse.  The show follows his adventure in searching for them and all of the crazy things that happen along the way.  It premiers Sunday, October 31st, Halloween Night!  I am still skeptical about a show of this manner being on the AMC Channel although I have heard that they have some pretty good programming.  C'mon HBO, what the heck!  You can watch the trailer from one of my earlier posts by clicking here.  You can click on the poster to view the original size in all of it's detail.  About a month to go and counting!

Pokemon Fan Trailer

I do not claim to like or even know anything about the realm of Pokemon.  I know both of my older daughters grew up with the craze in the late 90's, early 2000's, and have hundreds of English and Japanese cards to play the game with.  I am posting this for them and for any of you that may be a fan.  Kudos to the dudes that made this thing, inspiring, from a film maker point of view.

Goonies Toys!

I have never heard of the toy company Mezco before. After visiting their website, they are one of many companies licensed to produce toy replicas from television and film. If you have ever heard of Mcfarlane or Matty Collector toys then you are in the right realm. These toys are more for the adult collector rather than younger children. As you can see above, Mezco produced these awesome Goonies toys. This is news to me, undiscovered relics! I feel like a Goonie right now discovering One Eyed Willies treasure for the first time. It looks like they are sold out on the official Mezco website but a quick search on Ebay and they are all on there. Beware, these are not cheap and usually aren't after they have been sold out on the official site.

Bill and Ted Part 3?

Quick news for the day: This interview with Keanu Reeves is pretty interesting. It sounds like he is in for another Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. Do you really want to see them at 50? Part 3 on the 25th Anniversary?  How in the world are they going to bring George Carlin back?  The interview is below...

Machete Reviewed

Last night I had the opportunity to watch Machete. It falls in the same line as the 2007 Grindhouse films Planet Terror and Death Proof.  Machete was originally a trailer played with the Grindhouse double feature.  These films are meant to look old and grungy and often times are loaded with cheap special effects and humorous one liners.  I thoroughly enjoyed Death Proof but not so much Planet Terror.  24 hours after watching Machete and having the chance to think it over in my mind, I just wasn't really all that impressed.  Should I be?  I'm not so sure.  Some of my favorite genre of films are grindhouse/ revenge films and this is that down to the bone.  Did I say bones?  Yes, you see bones, decapatations, body limbs flying through the air, stabbings and more then enough buckets of blood to last you a while.

The premise is very simple.  Machete (Danny Trejo), who by the way plays the character wonderfully, is an illegal immigrant working as a day laborer when he is asked to kill a senator played by Robert Deniro doe $150,000.  He is set up, recorded on film and the senator is not killed.  It is a clever ploy by the senator himself and his right hand man, Jeff Fahey, to spark civil unrest and send all illegal Mexicans back over the border.  The film takes place in Austin Texas and the film ultimately sits on whether illegals should have the opportunity to stay and live for a better life or thrown back to Mexico.  I'm not going to dwell into that aspect of the story, although this film could not come out at a better time.  This movie seemed like a return to film for actors that haven't been doing much the past few years.  Don Johnson plays a militant that scours the border looking for illegals to kill as they cross over.  Steven Segal is a Mexican crime lord that ultimately has his hand in all of Machete's problems.  The final fight and death of Steven Segal is a little disappointing, like most of his films the past 15 years.  Jessica Alba is a officer investigating the illegals and the senator while Michelle Rodriguez serves tacos out of her food truck in the alleyway and plays almost a superhero Mexican legend, "She'", pronounced "She".  Also, Lindsay Lohan plays Jeff Fahey's daughter who is a drug addict.  She played the part wonderfully!

Overall, Machete is a Grindhouse film.  If you like that genre of a movie, then you will like Machete.  If your looking for an intricate storyline and top notch acting, look somewhere else.  I am still pondering my feelings about this film.  I love Robert Rodriguez and think he is a great director but I think he should have spent more time and directed his earlier summer release, Predators, instead of just producing and spent more time in the garage sharpening Machete.  I give it 2 out of 4 pizzas.

Frozen: The Review

It has been about 24 hours since my first viewing of this film and I just gotta say, WOW! If your looking for a film to scare you without the crazy hockey mask killer lurking in the shadows or the child's doll that comes to life, then you are in for a classic treat! The story is simple: 3 young adults are stranded on a ski lift on the side of a mountain in the arctic cold in the middle of the night. Now, if you have ever been skiing then you will automatically relate with this film. I believe even if you haven't, the honest reality of the situation will still keep you on the edge of your seat for the next 90 minutes. The questions that kept rolling through my mind is what would I do? Could I jump out of the seat to the snow below? Could I wait it out until the next morning or freeze to death stranded hundreds of feet in the air? I'm not going to spill the beans. You will have to watch the film yourself to find out if they make it out alive or are ravaged by the pack of blood thirsty wolves circling them from below. One quote I read was "This movie does for skiing what Jaws did for swimming". I don't know if I agree with that quote but if your looking for a scare without all of the bloodshed then your in the go for this film. One more thing I do like is that this was more of a small, independent film that found it's popularity in many different film festivals this past year. I only recognized one actor, Shawn Ashmore also known as "Iceman" from the X-Men films. Why couldn't he just shoot an ice sled out of the ski chair and everyone could slide down and live happily ever after?  A great film and 90 minutes of terror!  I give it 4 out of 4 pizzas!

Star Wars Deleted Scene Debacle

Unless your a geek like me, you probably haven't heard about this news. Once a year the "Star Wars Celebration" is held in Southern California. From my limited knowledge, I believe it is a giant convention where Star Wars nerds meet and have a good old nerdy time. At this years celebration it was announced that all of the Star Wars films would be released in 2011 on the Blu-Ray format. With these releases comes deleted scenes. In introduction to the announcement George Lucas (I.E. Director) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) joined the stage and played this deleted scene from "Return of the Jedi". It is supposedly a different introduction scene into Return of the Jedi. FYI: Watch it while you can. Seems like Youtube is removing these clips via Lucasfilm.

Everything is fine and dandy except for one thing, these remarks from Mark Hamill.

Take what you want from it. I think it could be a fake person playing the role of Luke Skywalker in the deleted clip. What I find funny is all of the online folks in an uproar over this. I love Star Wars more than the average guy but who really cares anyways? It's a scene we have never watched before! It's something different, something new! I am hoping they eventually film a new trilogy with Mark Hamill as old Luke Skywalker. I think that would be cool!

Halo

The newest game in a series of popular first person shooters, Halo Reach, arrives on September 14h. Having never owned an original Xbox. I never played Halo 1 or Halo 2. I own an Xbox 360 and have played Halo 3 and Halo: ODST though and have to say that they are pretty awesome games. I am mostly a fan of the online play where you can battle other opponents via the internet in real time. A brief synopsis of the story arch through out the games is simple. Aliens invade earth, destroy it, and it is your job to get revenge and destroy the aliens. It is mostly a "button masher" game with no real strategy. Those are the kind I love! No thinking, just destroying and causing havoc! Being as popular as Halo is, their have been talks of a Halo film. Many directors from Steven Spielberg to Peter Jackson have been connected but still nothing has surfaced. At one time the director Niell Blomkamp was serious enough that he made a live action 8 minute short film to entice the studio to make it. Unfortunately the studio declined and he went on to make another small science fiction film called "District 9". The short film is yours for the taking below. Strap on your army boots and jump in the warthog. It is going to be a bumpy ride.

My Science Project

No, i'm not in school. I just watched the funny/sci-fi film "My Science Project". This is definitely one of those films that you forget about over time but return to watch it to bring back that nostalgia of watching it 25 years ago. I'm a sucker for old 80's film, especially comedy and sci-fi. Spare me the romance or adventure, although, "Jewel of the Nile" wasn't all that bad. Get better Michael Douglas. This film stars such actors as (is it sad I had to look them up on IMDB when I just watched it?) John Stockwell, Fisher Stevens, and the great Dennis Hopper. I'm not the worlds biggest fan of Dennis Hopper but I think the role he played in this film really wasn't that far from reality for the guy. I just remembered that Fisher Stevens was actually on the last couple seasons of LOST and how could I forget the "Short Circut" movies. The general synopsis of the film is about a high school student that needed to make a science project. Instead of making one, he goes to an old air force junk yard and finds something that looks like it could be a cool project. Needless to say, it is one of the best science projects in history! I wanted to post the trailer but could find it nowhere online. Instead this is a clip from the film to wet your appetite. If your looking for brainless humor wrapped up with a joke here and there then grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride.

Hobo With A Shotgun!

WARNING: The video posted below is graphic! The video contains blood, killing, and other acts of violence. Viewer discretion is advised!

I was very excited to see this online trailer premiere of the film "Hobo With A Shotgun". You have probably never ever heard of this film. This film will probably not cater to the general audience. I would imagine it is not for the weak of heart or stomach and for the audience that enjoys grindhouse and exploitation films. I have been following the news about this film for about a year and a half now. It was originally filmed as a trailer only for an online contest. It won the online contest and I recall was presented by Robert Rodriguez at the South By Southwest Festival last year. It was so popular with people that it was bought and greenlit into a major motion picture. It looks like the film is done and stars Rutger Hauer as the crime fighting hobo. This gives me hope that small time "movie guys" like me will one day have the chance to make something big time that the whole world can see. Again, the video below is not suitable for work or for your children.

Monsters

One word, MONSTERS. This film was made for $15,000 by Gareth Edwards. It was recently picked up by Vertigo Films and has been hitting many film festivals around the globe in the past year. It is being released on October 29th in the cinema and on pay per view tv. The story follows a crashed Nasa probe in Mexico that has an alien(s) on it. The crash site and a massive chunk of Mexico becomes an infected zone that no one is to enter. The only problem is that 2 people need to get back to America and the only way to do that is to go through the infected zone. This reminds me somewhat of JJ Abrams teaser trailer "Super 8".

The new Peter Vincent of Fright Night.

I just wanted to post this real fast before I sat down to watch Resident Evil for the evening. Yes, your looking at an updated version of the "Peter Vincent" character from Fright Night the movie. The new version is played by David Tennant of "Dr. Who" fame. The original 1985 release starred Roddy Mcdowall as the fake tv fright night host. When a real vampire moves in next door to Charlie Brewester, he calls on Peter to find he is nothing but a sub-par actor and a fake, not the vampire killer he portrays on late night tv. Check out the pictures below and compare for yourself. Photo courtesy of Shock Till You Drop.

If Ghostbusters 3 happened?

Here is a picture I came across on Deviant Art. I am trying to figure out if the photo is just photoshopped or if someone actually drew the faces? Either way, it is still cool. Yes, I am a Ghostbsuters freak.
