New Old School WWF Lunch Boxes
This past weekend I had the chance to visit Portland Oregon's largest garage sale event. It was held at the Portland Expo Center. No one in my group had ever been there before and my brother in law was really interested in seeing if they had some good deals there and asked my wife and I to come along. It was a pretty cool MASSIVE indoor garage sale. Most of the items were set up on tables and ranged from pricey collectibles, small furniture, toys, knick knacks to old clothes and random odds and ends for that special buyer. I was pleasantly surprised at the many little things I purchased. One of the first things I was able to pick up was a 1985 WWF Blue Hulk Hogan lunch box. Talk about cool! The box is in decent shape and the thermos, well, I am lucky that the thermos came with it but it is not in the best of shape at all. I think I stated in on my previous posts that I wasn't going to get into collecting plastic lunch boxes and just stay with the metal ones. Crap! What was I thinking? The next day I am roaming Ebay, big mistake, and find another old WWF lunch box that a lady in Bend is selling. Cha-ching! Now I am the proud owner of 2 WWF Lunch Boxes. Yes, I know. I am a dork. These are the last 2 and the last plastic ones. hahaha Famous last words!

Raw Recap 4.18.11
Last night we saw our weekly edition of WWE's Monday Night Raw television show on the USA Network. After spending months building up to Wrestlemania I can imagine it is tough to keep the programming up to par as it was a couple of weeks ago. Wrestlemania came and went on like it always does and now we are back to the weekly grind so to speak. Rumor is that The Rock is going to be on Raw in a couple of weeks. If truth be told he will do a lot of talking and nothing else. Why spoil things when he has a big match against John Cena in another year? The past 2 weeks the WWE has been touring Europe and pre-taped Raw in London. Because of the time change this show was not obviously live like most weeks. That in itself for me is already a downer. One really cool thing though is Jim Ross is back as one of the voices of WWE. I always enjoy listening to Mr. Ross and wish he would be back full time as a commentator. The show was overall semi-par. R-Truth changed characters from the good guy to the bad guy. John Cena and Sin Cara tag teamed against The Miz and Alex Riley while the main event for last night's show was Randy Orton VS. CM Punk and most likely The Nexus. The video has been embedded below.
Just like everyone thought. CM Punk couldn't fight on his own and The Nexus came out to his rescue. What is up with Mason Ryan? That guy looks just like Batista! All things aside I like CM Punk and he is a pretty believable bad guy. It was a classic ending with the RKO on Punk to end the show. Why do i get the feeling that The Nexus is going to interfere with the main event of Cena VS Miz VS Morrison at Extreme Rules at the end of the month?
I continue to be impressed by Sin Cara. Does he remind me a lot of Rey Mysterio? Yes, but in a lot of ways better! His technique is amazing. Technique is something the contestants of WWE Tough Enough has been learning this week. You can call WWE what you want. You can say it is fake and predetermined but the men and women that do this job put their bodies on the line every day and if it wasn't for technique it would look like crap. John Cena is the man! I love John Cena. He is my favorite wrestler and I never get tired of watching him. That being said. John's technique is great but he could have a better arsenal of moves.
Interestingly enough the show opened last night with WWE Superstar R-Truth talking to the crowd about how happy he was that he was going to be in the main event, a triple threat match, at Extreme Rules. John Morrison came out and challenged Truth to a match. Morrison brought up that Truth drank water in between matches and that outside of the ring he smokes cigarettes. Truth took Morrison's challenge and lost the match. Now John Morrison will bat the main event and Truth is back to being a mid card star. After losing, Truth went on a rampage and demolished Morrison. He took a pack of cigarettes from a fan and began to smoke in front of the crowd.
It must have made some waves across the ocean back to the USA because a group of people were outraged at the storyline. Here is an excerpt from the website TMZ:
The drama began when Ron "R-Truth" Killings hit up the audience for a smoke ... and actually LIT UP right in front of them ... including several children. But the on-screen cig-fest didn't sit so well with anti-smoking activist Patrick Reynolds (pictured right) -- Executive Director of TobaccoFree.org -- who has officially issued a challenge to the wrestler ... to publicly apologize for the smoking stunt.
Reynolds -- ironically the grandson of tobacco magnate R.J. Reynolds -- tells TMZ, "For him to smoke in front of [children] is irresponsible. At best, it's thoughtless, and at worst, if he calculated appealing to kids by posing as a bad-boy outlaw, it's evil." Reynolds adds, "If he wants help in quitting, I'll be happy to be his personal coach."
The WWE issued a statement to TMZ defending the cigarette incident -- saying, "The negative effect smoking has on one’s health and physical performance was a part of a storyline on last night’s Monday Night Raw. Negative depictions of tobacco use on television are not unusual and can be seen on other TV-PG shows."

Game of Thrones Premiere!
Winter is coming! So what did everyone think about the premiere episode of the highly anticipated HBO Series Game of Thrones? I have never read any of the books but my wife has read all 4 of them and loves the series. I found the first episode to be very good. It looks absolutely amazing visually but be prepared that their are many characters and it is a lot to jump into and follow up front. I kept asking my wife questions through out about everyone. Sean Bean stars along with Lena Headey, Charles Dance and Peter Dinklage. If your not a fan of heads being chopped off and nude women then you may stay away from this series. I was actually surprised of all the nudity. Soft core of course but nudity none the less. My wife said that the novels are of a sexual nature. No wonder she likes it! Sunday nights at 9:00pm only on HBO!

WWE News: Edge Retires - A Fan's Reaction
Earlier I reported to you that the current WWE Heavy Weight Champion Edge was forced to retire due to health conditions and being unable to be cleared for physical work that the WWE entails. The thing about WWE and the wrestling industry as a whole is that their are many crazy things that go on inside and outside of the business. Far too often we hear about the superstars that go crazy and kill themselves or die in some other macabre way. It is then when the worlds eyes are on the sport and everyone puts their hand over their mouth and cries why. This situation is fortunately not like that but unfortunately untimely. I am not going to sit here and explain why WWE is real or fake. If your still reading this article then you probably have your own preconceived ideas anyways.
The past 10 years that I have really shown a deep interest into WWE and wrestling as a whole I have came to know the WWE Superstar known as Edge AKA Adam Copeland. He has mostly filled the shoes of being the bad guy. His signature move "the spear" could knock out any adversary and tend to keep them down and out for the count. Upon watching the news of Edge retiring on this past week's episode of RAW I began to think about when I first really took notice of him and his demise of a man we all know and love, John Cena. I was able to find video from the pay-per-view event and it was actually Edge's first championship in the WWE. The video does not show it but the original match was a Elimination Chamber match. John Cena had defended his title and the match was over. Earlier in the previous year at Wrestlemania, Edge won the "Money in the Bank" ladder match and was guaranteed a shot at the title whenever he wanted. This was his chance.....
Edge later on became a 11 time world champion throughout his career in WWE not to mention the countless other titles such as the WWE Championship and numerous WWE Tag Team Championships. My wife and I would always get a chuckle out of Edge. There was always a point in the match before he did his signature move, the spear, that he would stand back in the corner of the ring and run his hands through his hair beginning to pull it out. I don't know why but he always reminded me of my brother in law Cody. We tended to call Edge Cody rather than any other name. We never told Cody. Perhaps he knows now. We love ya Cody!
What is next for Edge? I am sure he will take whatever time he needs off and ponder his future. I see him returning in some form to the WWE. In this business it is rare that one truly retires and that is it. Fans are already chanting "hall of fame" so I wouldn't be surprised to see him there next year. I don't think we have seen the end of Edge. It was an honor to watch him on tv every week and the few times that I was able to see him wrestle in person. When thinking of Edge I think of one match and that is from 2006. It is a TLC (tables ladders and chairs) match. I found a highlight reel from that match and hope you enjoy it. Thanks and good luck in all you do Edge.

Monday Night Raw: Edge Retires!!!
This is late news but if you haven't heard this past Monday night on WWE Raw, the WWE Superstar Edge announced his retirement. This comes with great shock and sadness to the WWE Universe. This is the official report from WWE.COM.
Less than a week after his successful title defense against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, World Heavyweight Champion Edge has been forced to retire from in-ring competition due to injury. The unexpected news brings to an end a storied WWE career spanning 13 years and consisting of 11 World Title reigns.
The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI administered at Atlanta Midtown Diagnostic Imaging last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.
In 2003, Edge underwent a two level spinal fusion of the discs between his C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae. After being cleared to compete, The Rated-R Superstar returned to the ring, resulting in stenosis of the spine, or a narrowing of the spinal column, above and below the fused discs. This narrowing resulted in less and less of the vital fluid needed to protect the spinal cord. Medical professionals cannot clear Edge to compete ever again in WWE since doing so could result in paralysis or even death.
John Cena's reaction to Edge retiring.
I will be posting my "fan reaction" later.

# Update 1. After about 3 days of dealing with this off and on it looks like Photobucket has gotten their act together. I was 30 seconds from going to another provider! Expect new updates soon!

Man of Steel gets General Zod!
It was announced yesterday that the official title for the newest incarnation of Superman is simply titled "Man of Steel". Ok, that sounds cool. Superman, the man of steel. I get it. In other perhaps bigger news is that the villain will be General Zod. Michael Shannon will be playing the role of Zod. If you can't picture what Michael looks like you can see his pic below. If you remember General Zod was the main baddy in Superman 2. Superman 2 happens to be one of my favorite Superman movies but I see the lack of originality here. Let's see him battle Doomsday or something. I guess it could be worse. We could get Kevin Spacey again!

More Rise of the Planet of the Apes news!
Ok, so I am a freak. I love Planet of the Apes and pretty much anything that has to do with it. I am not sure why but as a kid watching the old films with Charlton Heston just did it for me. Like many, I am not a fan of the Tum Burton directed film but am going "ape sh*t" about this new film. You can read more news about this film on one of my previous posts here. The big news today is that Weta Digital Effects company released a 5 second teaser of what I am presuming is Caesar the ape played by "Gollum" Andy Serkis. Andy has a lot on his plate. It was announced earlier that he will be the second unit director on The Hobbit films with Peter Jackson along with reprising Gollum for the films. Keep in mind that the ape is not real and is computer generated. That is freaking crazy!
In other Planet of the Apes news there will be a new comic coming out. The official synopsis reads:
Taking place before the original 1968 PLANET OF THE APES movie, but true to the continuity of the first five films, this new ongoing comic series begins in a time when Ape society reaches a new golden age. But there are ripples of dissent in both the ape and human ranks. Tensions will rise and soon all will be caught in chaos! And amidst all this uncertainty, what is the fate of…The Lawgiver? Find out as a new chapter of the acclaimed sci-fi classic, PLANET OF THE APES, begins this April!
